The Unknown

To undertake a rite of passage is to enter into the unknown. You separate from the "normal" world, and enter into a space where anything can happen.

The fundamental mission of modern industrial society is control. We have gained much understanding of the material world, and can manipulate our environment with great skill. Our whole way of life is designed to defy the unknown, to drive it out of our lives.

Yet in order to change, we must step into the unknown. We must shed all the armor we've built up, leave it behind and step into the darkness, vulnerable and afraid.

This vulnerability, paradoxically, creates safety and strengthens the sacred container. The more I surrender to the process, the more I trust the process and let go, the deeper the transformation reaches.
